Last week, the popular photo sharing application, Snapchat, quietly released some new features that would make competitive with other networks like Instagram. After turning down Facebook’s $3 billion offer, it’s clear that Snapchat is not only trying to compete with other networks, but also develop the app with future monetization opportunities in mind. Snapchat as know it may soon become a thing of the past, but nevertheless, the new features are pretty cool.
Snapchat 6.1 new features (as listed on Apple iTunes store) are:
- Smart filters – Add data overlays to your Snaps!
- Visual filters
- Special text
- Front-facing flash
- Up to 7 best friends (currently, users are only allowed up to 5)
Snapchat was pretty sneaky about this update, and didn’t give users enough information on the new features – like how to turn them on. In order to use the new features, you have to go into the settings menu and turn on the ones you want.
Here’s a video to show how to use the other new features.
